INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
This internship aims to enhance the candidate's management skills by assisting with existing operations and supporting new business initiatives within the Soils and Dredge Management division.
The Operations Intern will collaborate with the Clean Earth of Carteret’s management team and other internal departments and cross functional teams. Responsibilities will vary based on workload, with a primary focus on process improvement in the facility’s Material Sorting and Aggregate production and marketing operations. The work may include, but not be limited to, equipment and processing system research, field observations, data analysis, generating reports and presentations, and assisting with site-wide operations. This role provides hands-on training focused on jaw crusher, cone crusher, material flow, screening systems, and production optimization.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES:
MPS (Manual Picking Station): The manual picking station is a key component of the Clean Earth of Carteret operation. It is crucial for optimizing recycling options for contaminated soil products and for achieving marketable recycled aggregate product. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Learn all aspects of manual picking station operation. This will include spending up to 4 hours a day working outside at the picking station.
- Track and report KPIs such as inbound tons, line throughput, recovery rate (%), residue rate (%), quality compliance, downtime (planned and unplanned) and safety metrics.
- Develop and perform studies to analyze picking station and personnel operations to improve operational efficiencies, maintenance procedures, process line availability, and safety.
- Collect data to understand various types of material being sorted, down times due to maintenance, and evaluate current processes.
- Prepare reports and presentations to management summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Execute recommendations and improvements as approved by management.
- The operations intern will work closely with on-site safety coordinator, operations manager and general manager to research and implement additional resources, process and management practices via collection of data.
Aggregate: Clean Earth Carteret (CEC) makes recycled aggregate products for sale. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Research current NJDOT specifications required for approval of the recycled aggregate.
- Research the market for potential buyers, contractors and developers.
- Create Sales template emails, quotes and spreadsheets to track production and sale.
- Attend meetings related to sales, marketing and production.
Assist with other projects as assigned
WORK HOURS, BENEFITS, PAY:
- Full-time (Monday to Friday) in facility, Day Shift (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. / hours may vary)
- 8 Weeks (June 1- July 31st)
- Hourly Rate: $22.00
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ideal candidate would be a college junior or senior who is actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an engineering, environmental science, or business field of study.

Work Environment
- Required to wear company-provided personal protective equipment including eye protection, foot protection, hard hat, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator when needed.
- Ability to maneuver around heavy equipment including bending, climbing, crawling, manual dexterity, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to work in a hands-on manner to execute activities.
- Must be able to pass a DEA background check when relevant.
