The Gradall Operator is responsible for operating specialized hydraulic excavators (Gradalls) to support steel mill services, including excavation, grading, loading, and material handling tasks. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in industrial environments
Key Responsibilities
Operate Gradall excavators to excavate, grade, and level materials as required for steel mill site preparation, maintenance, and construction projects
Load, unload, and transport materials using Gradall attachments; may also operate as a dump truck driver when transporting the unit
Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance on Gradall equipment, including track cleaning, fluid checks
Coordinate with site supervisors and other crew members to ensure tasks are completed on schedule
Identify and report mechanical issues promptly; assist with repairs when necessary
Maintain accurate records of operating hours and maintenance performed
Follow all safety regulations, incident reporting procedures, and union requirements (if applicable)
- Be prepared to perform other labor/operator duties as assigned, including working in tight spaces, around utilities, and in variable weather conditions
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience: Experience operating heavy equipment, preferably a Gradall; ability to read and interpret construction plan
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently, 100 lbs with assistance; work in all weather conditions; operate in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments
Skills: Strong hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and ability to follow safety procedures.
