The Diesel Truck Mechanic Trainee (DTMT) must be mechanically inclined, with aspirations of becoming a fully-fledged, state-licensed mechanic. The DTMT will work under the guidance of a Licensed Diesel Truck Mechanic and will report to the Service Center Manager. The Diesel Truck Mechanic Trainee will support the coordination of routine service and inspection of fleet vehicles and trailers by systematic selection. The Diesel Truck Mechanic Trainee assists with scheduled and non-scheduled repairs, based on the priorities that are determined by the site mgmt.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
· Work directly with the Truck Mechanic, learning all aspects of the repairs that are performed on our fleet of equipment.
· This will include but not be limited to brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
· The DTMT will learn how to maintain all records of repairs/inspections per regulations. Maintain a clean work area, and orderliness, in compliance with the Company Policy and Management expectations.
· The DTMT will need the basic tools required to work on trucks, trailers, and tankers.
· The DTMT will go out occasionally with the mechanic, performing roadside assistance during breakdowns.
Basic Qualifications:
• Education is equivalent to graduation from High School or GED. College or vocational training is a plus, but not a requirement.
• Willingness to become a certified mechanic through the State of Michigan is required.
• Demonstrates an aptitude for mechanical repairs and problem-solving.
• Must be flexible with the work schedule, including some weekend work, ER breakdowns at times.
• Must be able to follow directions and clearly understand instructions.
• Must have the ability to read and understand equipment manuals and manufacturer's literature.
• Must be able to wear proper PPE as required.
• Must be able to complete all Pre-Hire requisites, including physical, drug screen, and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum 1-3 years of progressive experience a light truck mechanic, including gas and diesel engine experience.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be computer literate, with a basic knowledge of software programs such as Excel, Word, etc.
• Demonstrates the ability to persist with a specific course of action. Must be willing to commit the necessary time and effort to complete work assignments and do a quality job.
• Demonstrates the ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized, and diplomatic manner; listens to others to respond effectively to ideas and questions.
• Demonstrates excellent attention to detail and ability to review work for accuracy.
• Demonstrates the ability to create and maintain a high level of professionalism, confidence, and accountability with the department and upper management.
• Demonstrates the ability to maintain the highest level of Company Ethics and Core Values at all times.
• Demonstrate strong networking and proven relationship-building skills, along with the ability to cordially interact with drivers, mechanics, and management.
• Demonstrates the ability to be Performance-driven, acting with a passion to deliver winning results.
