Job Description

The Senior Chemist is responsible for the overall administration of the QC laboratory to include: Training of lab personnel, monitoring of QA/QC programs in effect, maintenance of laboratory records, scheduling and prioritizing sample testing duties, and generating reports. The Senior Chemist will be responsible for completing analysis of the waste stream samples per SOPs and waste analysis plan, inventory control for lab reagents, maintenance of the samples/instruments, data entry, analytical equipment usage, associated filing and administrative activities within the laboratory.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

· Follow permit requirements to collect and test compounds and samples, using applied methods techniques.

· Properly log all quantities, volumes and analytical results into waste management software

· Perform QA/QC analytical screening parameters as dictated by permit. Follow all approved Laboratory SOPs

· Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety standards including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemical agents.

· Maintain all laboratory equipment and proper inventory

· Operate the laboratory in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner

· Monitor and change carbon filters

· Perform air quality samples

· Use of company-provided personal protective equipment is required

· Performs other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management

 

 


Qualifications

· Associate degree in a science related discipline

· Ability to work in team and fast passed environment

· Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing

· Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

· Ability to stand for prolonged periods while conducting lab tests

· Ability to lift 25 pounds periodically

· Ability to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training with 8-hour refresher courses

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science

· 1+ years Bench experience in analytical chemistry

· Knowledge OSHA Regulations

· 2+ years experience in Hazardous Waste Industry

· Working knowledge of BTU’s, Water content, and Flash point tests
